Course Objective
To get an idea of the dimensional and form accuracy of products, and to get exposure to equipment and exercises related to machine dynamics, basics of hydraulic and pneumatic devices, basic concepts of stepper motors, and basic ideas of data acquisition systems and automation.
Module-wise Syllabus
Module 1
Part 1 (any 6 experiments): calibration of vernier caliper, micrometer, LVDT and dial gauge; class of fits determination; repeatability and reproducibility analysis; angular measurements (sine bar, bevel protractor, combination sets, clinometers, angle dekkor); straightness/flatness/squareness/roundness error (autocollimator, laser interferometer, spirit level, dial gauge); displacement/velocity/acceleration of vibration; surface roughness measurement; strain measurement with strain gauges; screw thread parameter measurement; gear profile error measurement; bore diameter measurement; tool maker's microscope; automobile exhaust/flue gas analysis; CMM demonstration for form error evaluation.
Module 2
Part 2 (any 6 experiments): whirling of shaft; gyroscope; universal governor apparatus; free and forced vibration analysis; non-destructive testing; hydraulic and pneumatic circuits (trainer units); electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic circuits; motion controller with AC/DC/servo/stepper motors and encoders; PC-based data acquisition systems; PLC programming and variable speed drive control; robotic trainer units; 3D printing.
