Course Objective

To provide a basic understanding about computer hardware, software, and computer networks; to familiarize the learner with the web development process using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Module-wise Syllabus

Module 1

Minimum 10 experiments: computer hardware familiarization (CPU box, motherboard, CPU & chipset, interface cards, card slots, hard disk, cables, SMPS, NIC, ports); computer peripherals, storage devices, buses, firmware; boot process familiarization; installing Linux and Windows operating systems; basic Unix/Linux commands (ls, mkdir, cp, mv, grep, rmdir, chmod, useradd, passwd, history, dmesg, cpuinfo, uname, du, time, write, fdisk); networking hardware (RJ45, UTP, fibre, switch, NIC, router, WAP, modem); basic networking commands (ifconfig, ping, traceroute, nslookup, ssh, scp, telnet, ftp); viewing network traffic using Wireshark/Packet Tracer; configuring and establishing a network connection; shell programming in Linux (bash); creating and deploying a web page on a local web server; using JavaScript to validate forms; creating an image slider with HTML, CSS and JavaScript; LaTeX basics; development environments (VS Code, Sublime Text, Atom); introduction to repositories (Git/Bitbucket).

  • CO3Experiment with data network communication scenarios using Wireshark.
