CUET Preparation Strategy
CUET vs Board Exams: CUET is an objective (MCQ) exam while boards are written. The syllabus is Class 12 NCERT — same content, different exam format. Students who study NCERT thoroughly for boards are already 70% prepared for CUET Domain subjects.
Timeline: January–February: Complete NCERT for all chosen domain subjects (same as board prep). March: Solve CUET sample papers. April–May: Full mock tests + current affairs revision for General Test.
Key difference from boards: Time pressure is higher in CUET — 40 questions in 45 minutes = 67 seconds per question. Speed and elimination techniques matter. Practice under timed conditions from March.
Language Test: Read unseen passages daily. Focus on vocabulary (antonyms, synonyms), grammar (parts of speech, error detection) and comprehension. 30 minutes of daily practice from February is enough.
General Test: Follow one current affairs source consistently — Hindu/Indian Express daily for 15 minutes, or a monthly GK capsule. Practice mental ability sets regularly; speed improves with practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CUET harder than boards?
CUET is not harder in terms of content — it is Class 12 NCERT. The challenge is the MCQ format (no partial marks), negative marking (−1 per wrong) and time pressure. Students who know their NCERT well but are used to writing answers must adapt to the elimination-and-selection MCQ approach. CUET is generally considered easier than JEE Main but comparable to a well-designed objective board paper.
How many universities accept CUET scores?
Over 250 universities accept CUET scores as of 2024-25, including all 45 central universities (compulsory), many state universities (optional), and several deemed and private universities. Delhi University, JNU, BHU, Hyderabad Central University, EFLU and Jamia are among the most sought-after.
Can I choose any 6 subjects in CUET?
Yes — but you should choose based on the requirements of your target programme and university. For DU BCom Hons, you typically need English + one domain (Accountancy or Business Studies/Mathematics) + General Test. For BSc Physics at DU, you need Physics + Chemistry/Maths + Language + possibly General Test. Always check the specific university's programme admission criteria on their official website or on the NTA CUET bulletin.
