CBSE Class 9 Science Syllabus 2026-27
Subject Code: 086 | Academic Year: 2026-27
The CBSE Class 9 Science syllabus 2026-27 integrates Physics, Chemistry and Biology into four thematic units. Theory paper carries 80 marks with 20 marks for internal assessment. Unit I (Matter) carries the highest weightage at 29 marks. Class 9 Science lays the groundwork for Class 10 board exam topics — strong understanding of Atoms, Force, and Cell Biology here directly benefits Class 10 preparation.

How many units are in CBSE Class 9 Science syllabus 2026-27?▾
CBSE Class 9 Science has 4 units: Matter — Its Nature and Behaviour, Organisation in the Living World, Motion, Force and Work, and Our Environment. Theory paper carries 80 marks with 20 marks for internal assessment.
What is the marks distribution for CBSE Class 9 Science?▾
Theory paper is 80 marks. Unit I (Matter) carries 29 marks, Unit III (Motion, Force and Work) carries 21 marks, Unit II (Organisation in the Living World) carries 18 marks, and Unit IV (Environment) carries 12 marks.
Which chapters are most important in CBSE Class 9 Science?▾
Motion and Force and Laws of Motion (Unit III) are the most numerically demanding. Matter in Our Surroundings, Atoms and Molecules, and Structure of the Atom (Unit I) are high-weightage Chemistry chapters. The Living World chapters (Cell, Tissues) are important for Biology questions.
How many chapters are in CBSE Class 9 Science 2026-27?▾
CBSE Class 9 Science has 14 chapters covering topics from Matter in Our Surroundings to Improvement in Food Resources.
What are the best reference books for CBSE Class 9 Science?▾
NCERT Science Class 9 is the primary textbook. S. Chand's Science for Class 9 by Lakhmir Singh and Manjit Kaur is widely used for detailed explanations and extra questions. NCERT Exemplar Problems in Science Class 9 is good for higher-order thinking questions.
Does Class 9 Science prepare students for Class 10 board exams?▾
Yes. Class 9 Science introduces the Physics, Chemistry and Biology concepts that are tested in Class 10 board exams. Motion and Force (Class 9) directly connects to electricity and light (Class 10). Atoms and Molecules (Class 9) connects to Chemical Reactions and Acids/Bases (Class 10). A solid Class 9 base makes Class 10 board preparation much easier.
