  • Representation of terminating/non-terminating recurring decimals on number line and their representation as rational numbers
  • Rationalisation of real numbers — laws of exponents for real numbers

Unit II: Algebra

  • Polynomials — definition, degree, coefficients, zeroes, remainder theorem, factor theorem, factorisation, algebraic identities
  • Linear Equations in Two Variables — introduction, solution of a linear equation, graph of a linear equation, equations of lines parallel to x-axis and y-axis

Unit III: Coordinate Geometry

  • Cartesian system — coordinate axes, plotting points in the plane, connecting with Algebra

Unit IV: Geometry

  • Introduction to Euclid's Geometry — Euclid's definitions, axioms and postulates
  • Lines and Angles — basic terms, intersecting lines, parallel lines, angle sum property of a triangle
  • Triangles — congruence criteria (SAS, ASA, SSS, RHS), properties of isosceles triangle, inequalities in a triangle
  • Quadrilaterals — angle sum property, types, properties of parallelogram, mid-point theorem
  • Circles — tangent and chord properties, angle subtended by a chord, cyclic quadrilateral, equal chords and their distances

Unit V: Mensuration

  • Areas — area of a triangle using Heron's formula, area of quadrilaterals
  • Surface Areas and Volumes — surface area and volume of cuboid, cube, right circular cylinder, cone and sphere

Unit VI: Statistics and Probability

6 marks
  • Statistics — collection of data, presentation in tabular form, bar graph, histogram, frequency polygons, mean, median, mode of ungrouped data
  • Probability — history, empirical probability, simple problems on single events
