Unit III: Chemical Kinetics
- Rate of reaction, rate law, integrated rate equations
- Order and molecularity, temperature dependence, Arrhenius equation
- Activation energy, collision theory
Unit IV: d and f Block Elements
- General properties of transition elements — electronic configuration, variable valency, colour
- Important compounds: KMnO₄ and K₂Cr₂O₇
- Lanthanoids and actinoids — electronic configuration and oxidation states
Unit V: Coordination Compounds
- Werner's theory, IUPAC nomenclature
- Bonding — VBT and CFT
- Colour, magnetic properties, stereoisomerism, importance in biological systems
Unit VI: Haloalkanes and Haloarenes
- Classification, nomenclature, nature of C–X bond
- Substitution reactions, elimination reactions, stereochemistry of SN1 and SN2
- Polyhalogen compounds — DDT, freons
Unit VII: Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers
- Nomenclature, methods of preparation, physical and chemical properties

Unit VIII: Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
