Frequently Asked Questions

How many units are in CBSE Class 11 Maths syllabus 2026-27?

There are 5 units in CBSE Class 11 Maths: Sets and Functions, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Calculus, and Statistics and Probability. The theory paper carries 80 marks with 20 marks for internal assessment.

What is the marks distribution for CBSE Class 11 Maths?

Theory paper is 80 marks. Unit II (Algebra) carries the highest weightage at 25 marks, followed by Unit I (Sets and Functions) at 23 marks. Internal assessment carries 20 marks.

Is CBSE Class 11 Maths harder than Class 10?

Yes. Class 11 Maths introduces topics like Trigonometric Functions, Complex Numbers, Permutations and Combinations, and Limits — all of which are significantly more abstract than Class 10 content. Most students find the jump difficult in the first few months of Class 11.

Which chapters are most important in CBSE Class 11 Maths?

Trigonometric Functions (Unit I), Sequences and Series, Permutations and Combinations, and Binomial Theorem (Unit II) are high-weightage. Limits and Derivatives (Unit IV) is crucial because it directly leads into Class 12 Calculus (Integrals, Differentiability).

What are the best reference books for CBSE Class 11 Maths?

NCERT Mathematics Class 11 is primary. R.D. Sharma's Mathematics for Class 11 is the most popular supplementary book. S.L. Loney's Trigonometry is recommended for strong trigonometry foundations. For JEE aspirants, NCERT + R.D. Sharma is sufficient for Class 11.

Does CBSE Class 11 Maths syllabus connect to JEE?

Yes. Class 11 Maths is the foundation for JEE Maths. Coordinate Geometry (straight lines, conics), Trigonometry, and Sequences and Series are directly tested in JEE Main and Advanced. Students who build a strong Class 11 base find Class 12 Calculus and JEE preparation significantly easier.
