Course Objective
To enable the student to familiarize various tools, measuring devices, practices and different methods employed in the industry, and to apply this experience while developing a product/project for the benefit of society.
Module-wise Syllabus
Module 1
Minimum 12 exercises from: workshop safety and shop floor ethics; mechanical and measuring tools (spanners, Allen keys, Vernier calipers, height/depth gauge, micrometers, bevel protractor); carpentry joints (T-lap, cross lap, dovetail, mortise); foundry (bench/floor moulding, core making, pattern making); sheet metal shapes (cylindrical, conical, prismatic); fitting joints (square, V, male-female); plumbing pipe joints; smithy forging demonstration; arc welding bead formation; rolling; electroplating; metrology measurements (dovetail angle, taper angle, circular radius); assembly/disassembly demonstrations (cylinder-piston, tailstock, bicycle, pump); machine demonstrations (shaping, milling, grinding, lathe, drilling); modern manufacturing demonstrations (CNC, 3D printing); tape/Vernier/screw gauge measurements; plot area measurement with chain and cross staff; building area measurement with Distomat; level difference with dumpy level; brick/cement quality assessment; brick wall construction (English and Flemish bond); building block estimation; two-room building setting out; market study of construction materials; electrical wiring (light/fan circuit); electronic tools and testing instruments familiarization.
